Cong to hold working committee meeting today

Last Updated 12 January 2015, 20:09 IST

A crucial meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) will be convened on Tuesday against the backdrop of the party’s need to recover and chart the way forward from successive electoral losses.

Though the agenda for the meeting—called by Congress president Sonia Gandhi—was not circulated among members till Monday evening, senior party leaders said organisational matters, including the elections and the Modi government’s decision to usher in economic reforms through Ordinance, would be part of deliberations.

The meeting comes after Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s talks with about 450 party leaders on a strategy to revive the party after a series of electoral defeats. Organisational polls are scheduled to be held this year and Congress leaders are debating whether the party should elect members through consensus or casting of ballots.

Though Rahul has been a proponent of holding elections for all the posts in the party, some leaders had voiced strong views about how the process was “susceptible to subversion” and required changes.
