Acting on a tip off, Tahsildar C Mahadevaiah raided and seized five iron coracles that were being used for sand extraction and 10 tractor loads of sand, in villages near Cauvery river, in Kollegal, on Wednesday.
Officials of Revenue, Police and PWD raided the villages, and five coracles used for the purpose and sand accumulated near some of the houses were also seized from Dasanapura.
The Tahsildar said that sand extraction and shifting had been banned in the district following Supreme Court’s order. The order was not relaxed even after the protests by construction labourers.
Stern action would be taken on those indulging in sand extraction and accumulation, he said.
