There will be no shortage in the supply of drinking water this summer, said the Chairman of Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), Anjum Parvez on Tuesday.

Speaking at a meeting of BWSSB and Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials to discuss the water woes of the City, Parvez said: “We receive 1,400 MLD of water everyday from the Cauvery and about 400 MLD from other sources. This is enough to meet the water needs of the City and there will not be any problems during the summer too. There is enough water stored in reservoirs.”

In case of a shortage, he said, water reserved for the production of electricity will be dipped into. The Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation (KPTCL) has agreed for this proposal, he added.

He said due to the expansion of the Palike limits from 225 sq km to 800 sq km, they face hiccups in water supply at times. "We have 30 jetting and six de-silting machines, presently. Their number will be increased in the next two months. We will procure 80 more desilting machines and 30 drilling machines,” he said.BBMP Commissioner M Lakshminarayana who was present at the meeting said the water supply network in areas coming under old limits was causing problems. The BWSSB Chief Engineer, T Venkataraju said the water crisis was severe on Mysuru Road, Hebbal, Domlur, and Pillanna Garden. Due to the shortage of funds, some works are delayed.

During the meeting, residents from different areas raised their grievances. They complained of erratic water supply, water contamination and low supply among others. Most of the problems were from old wards of the Palike. Nazini Begum from Padarayanapura complained of broken pipelines in her area and polluted water from taps.

Mayor N Shantha Kumari said that she will discuss the issues with the concerned Palike officials and resolve them at the earliest.
