Tight security in the City ahead of Republic Day

The government has made several security arrangements ahead of the Republic Day celebrations in Bengaluru on Monday.

Around 9 DCPs, 22 ACPs, 96 inspectors, 14 women inspectors, 327 ASIs, 850 head constables, 1882 police constables, 128 women constables, 150 policemen in mufti and 37 Karnataka Special Reserve Police (KSRP) platoons will be deployed in and around the areas surrounding Manekshaw Parade Grounds to ensure a smooth Republic Day celebration.

Meanwhile, about 1000 home guards along with several police personnel are deployed at various public places and sensitive areas across the City. And hotels and lodges are being scrutinised.

Police foil murder bid, arrest five

A CCB team of Bengaluru police on Monday foiled a murder bid by arresting a gang of rowdy sheeters.

Acting on a tip-off,  the officials raided a rowdy gang of eight at Kempambudhi Lake in KG Nagar, just in time as they were preparing to carry out an attack. The police nabbed five accused, Subramanys, Naveen, Madhu, Neelakant and Naresh, while three other accused, Shivakumar, Sagar and Gurumurthy managed to escape. The officials have recovered weapons from them.

An FIR has been filed with Tyagrajnagar police station.
