Lawyers to campaign against Bedi

Last Updated 25 January 2015, 01:54 IST

Delhi High Court and district courts bar associations have opposed BJP’s projection of Kiran Bedi as CM candidate, digging out old rivalry with the police officer to accuse her of having indulged in “administrative misconduct”, “high-handedness” and “inefficiency”.

President of the Delhi High Court Bar Association Rajiv Khosla and Chairman of the Coordination Committee of All District Bar Associations R K Wadhwa held a press conference here to announce that their one lakh members who are residents of the city will campaign against Bedi’s
candidature.

Former Team Anna member Kiran Bedi was declared as CM candidate four days after joining the party which led to hue and cry in the state unit.

Old rivalry
The lawyers’ reservation over Bedi projection as Delhi Assembly poll mascot stems from an old rivalry they still harness about the former Delhi Police officer, ordering lathi-charge on them in Tis Hazari district court way back in 1998.

Their press release virtually appeared like a chargesheet for it lists 10 allegations against Bedi.
The Bedi-advocates tiff started with her order to illegally handcuff a lawyer for producing him in a court, alleges the press release issued by Co-ordination committee of All District Court Bar Associations of Delhi.

The magistrate let off the lawyer caught in some petty offence after the protest by bar association but Bedi, who was then DCP (North), allegedly ordered lathicharge on advocates.
