Hours before President Barack Obama's arrival in India, Pakistan-based militants made a desperate bid to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir amidst firing from across the border but alert BSF troops foiled it.

Border Security Force jawans observed movement of three militants close to the International Border in RS Pura sector on the intervening night of January 24-25.

Sources said troops posted at the border out post Jognuchak fired upon the militants but they continued their desperate efforts to cross over the border.

There has been firing from Pakistani troops towards Indian security personnel to give "cover" to the militants, the sources said.

However, the militants were forced to retreat due to the firing from the BSF troops, sources said.
President Obama arrived here this morning for a three day visit during which he will witness the Republic Day parade.

There have been reports that militants have been trying to infiltrate into India to carry out terror attacks before or during Obama's visit.
