JOIN USA teenage girl hanged herself from a tree at Shivagange under the Dobbaspet police station limits on Sunday just after her lover refused to marry her and she quarrelled with him over the matter.
Siddagangamma, 18, a resident of Machenahalli, was found hanging from the tree around 8 am on Sunday. Passersby called the police about the suicide.
The police sent the body for post-mortem and informed the girl’s family.
Siddagangamma had dropped out of school a few years ago and started working as a construction labourer.
Her parents told the police that she had been in a relationship with Gangabylappa, a construction labourer from Shivagange, and the two got intimate. A few months later, she asked him to marry her but he declined, dropping the bombshell that he was already married.
When elders learnt about the matter, they made a complaint of rape against Gangabylappa whom the police arrested later and sent to jail. The man managed to get bail recently. When the girl got to know about it, she approached him again and asked him to marry her.
They quarrelled over the matter on Saturday too, after which an angry Siddagangamma ran to a tree near Gangabylappa’s house and hanged herself, the police said quoting the parents. “A case of unnatural death has been registered as of now and we are investigating whether the man had abetted in the suicide,” a senior police officer said.
