A stairway to success

It all started with a Teacher’s Day celebration at Lake Montfort School in 2010. Five boys performed a mash-up of the legendary song, ‘Wonderwall’ by ‘Oasis’ and ‘Boulevard of Broken Dreams’ by ‘Green Day’, which thrilled a massive crowd. This motivated them to take their act higher and they grew from playing “for fun” to playing “with passion” and “for the immense love for music.”

A penchant for music and similar influences while growing up, led the boys to start ‘Errorz’, an alternative rock band.

Despite not having jam rooms to practice and lack of financial stability to buy gears, drum-kits and other high-end instruments, ‘Errorz’, now a progressive rock band, which has come a long way only through relentless belief and the confidence that their band manager and mentor, Franklin, had in them.

The members feel that technical glitches and mistakes in every gig, from the beginning, are what have contributed to their learning and success and hence decided to call their band ‘Errorz’.

Their current line-up includes Vinod Gunasekaran on vocals,  Darshan on the lead guitars, Appanna on the rhythm guitar, Diego Maradona as bass guitarist, Samuel on drums and Frank, the band manager.

Be it in college fests or corporate events, ‘Errorz’ has never failed to make a mark. ‘Connecting Classrooms’, ‘Freedom Jam’ and  ‘Sonido Battle of Bands’ are some of their favourites. They have also won in the event ‘Chiguru’ in 2013 and were adjudged as runners up in ‘Rainbow Jam’.

However, their most memorable moments remain sharing the stage with ‘Swarathma’, playing Rabindranath Tagore’s music in metal version and headlining a show for a crowd
of 4,000 people in Kerala.

They will not give up anytime soon and find a lot of hope in the music atmosphere of the City. “The music atmosphere in Bengaluru is booming for independent musicians. There is a lot of scope for original songs over the commercialised Bollywood music and there are many bands writing new songs which keeps the competition healthy. This makes the path for the younger crowd to take up music and increases their creativity,” says Frank.

The band hopes that the listener’s biggest takeaways are to understand how ‘humane’ their songs are and how much they can relate to the songs’ sensibilities.

Frank adds, “As a band, we particularly write our songs based on human emotions. We get rewards for our hard work when our music and lyrics fit our listener’s emotions. They should be able to relate to what we have channelised through our art. This connection makes for a wonderful experience, when the members and the listeners walk in each other’s shoes.”
