BMTC bus catches fire, passengers unhurt

A Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation bus caught fire near the Outer Ring Road near Laggere on Thursday.

However, all the passengers were rescued in time.

According to the jurisdictional Rajagopalanagar police, at around 10.45 am, the driver of the bus plying from Kempe Gowda bus stand to Peenya, noticed smoke in the engine. He stopped the bus and asked the passengers to alight from the vehicle.

As soon as the passengers got out of the bus, the vehicle caught fire and a portion of it was gutted. The public alerted the Fire and Emergency services. Two fire tenders, which were rushed to the spot, took about 20 minutes to douse the flames.

The police said the reason for the fire was yet to be ascertained. Senior officers from the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation visited the spot and ordered an inquiry into the incident.

Three drug peddlers held

The Madiwala police arrested three drug peddlers from Koramangala Second Block on Wednesday and recovered 85 gram of the banned narcotic, Methamphetamine, worth Rs 2.12 lakh.

According to the police, the arrested have been identified as Nadeem Saleem, 26, a native of Mumbai, Mohammed Arif, 28, and Syed Inayath, 26, both residents of Neelasandra in Bengaluru.

Based on credible information, the police arrested the three while they were trying to sell Methamphetamine, also known as Meth, to college students and corporate company employees. They sold the substance brought from Mumbai for Rs 2,500 per gram, the police said.
