‘I want to move on’

Megha Shenoy

Neetu has signed a Konkani movie and she shares her excitement with Metrolife

The year may have started on a low key but actress Neetu has struck a new chord in her career with a Konkani movie. Titled Uzzvaad (meaning light in Konkani), the film is said to showcase Christian practices in Goa. It has an all Goan team with theatre artistes from Mumbai.

versatile NeetuNeetu, who plays the female lead in the movie, says that her role is that of a girl who bails the hero out of the dark and helps him find his path. “Director Suresh Rivonkar told me that it’s a subtle and a well-etched character and I am really looking forward to it,” she adds.
With this movie, the actress would have completed acting in five different languages. “I have no problem with Konkani because I speak it at home. I just have to concentrate on the Goan accent, which is slightly different from what we speak,” says Neetu, who will also be dubbing for the movie.

In Sandalwood, there are offers pouring in but many are said to be for ‘special appearances’. “It’s time I moved on to bigger things now. This year, I want to concentrate on lead roles unless  something worthwhil comes up,” she explains.

A movie that has been taking a while to come up is Krishna Nee Lateage Baro. She laughs, “Krishna is really getting late isn’t it? I don’t know why the delay but according to my director Mohan, the first copy should be ready by this month.”

Meanwhile, Neetu is putting on her dancing shoes for a song in J G Krishna’s Aithalakadi, which is already packed with special appearances and starry performances. “It sure is exciting though. This time, the concept is said to be different but they haven't told me exactly what it is. Only time will tell,” she signs off.
