Taking this idea further, Star Plus has now come up with a reality show that will test the participants’ care for their parents.

Called “Mahayatra – Rishton Ka Anokha Safar,” the “religious adventure” show will see 12 participants competing against one another to fulfil their parents’ wish to visit the some of the most important religious sites in the country and “prove” their love, dedication and “supreme sacrifice” towards their parents.

Touted as the show that will test one’s commitment to fulfil one’s parents’ dream, it will see each team comprising three family members — son or daughter and their parents or parents-in-law — embark on the one-of-a-kind contest.

“It promises to be the first of its kind reality show with a never-seen-before combination of adventure and spirituality. It aims at bringing to the fore the special bond that exists between a child and his parents and puts to test his commitment and dedication to fulfil his parents’ ultimate dream,” says Anupam Vasudev, executive vice-president marketing of STAR India Pvt Ltd, explaining the concept.

In the show that will run from Monday to Friday evenings from January 18, the teams will strive to cover 25 key religious shrines across India as each of the children also attempt to fulfil their parents’ dream to visit the “Chaar Dhaams.”

Viewers will also get to watch the “pujas” and “mahaartis” at these shrines during the show, says Vasudev.

And yes, like all other reality shows, here too the winner stands to get Rs 1 crore as “reward” for his or her “dedication and love” towards his or her parents.  As one might say, so much for unconditional love between parents and children.
