Kejri pushes CAG for quick audit of discoms

Last Updated 26 February 2015, 02:16 IST

A little before Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced his decision in the cabinet meeting on Wednesday to cut power bills and give free water, he met Comptroller and Auditor General Shashi Kant Sharma over the ongoing audit of the private power distribution companies (discoms).

The audit was ordered by Kejriwal in January 2014 when he became the chief minister for the first time.
During his meeting with Sharma, the Chief Minister took an update on the progress in the audit process and tried to ask means and ways the Delhi government could help speed up the audit.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that Kejriwal has promised to the CAG to do whatever he can to provide the documents needed for the audit.

Kejriwal conveyed to Sharma his government’s view on the CAG audit of the finances of the discoms and its plans to review the electricity tariff after the findings of the audit, Sisodia said.

The CAG started the audit of the finances of the three power companies – BSES Yamuna Power Ltd, BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd and Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd in January  2014.

The CAG was told by the Kejriwal government to audit the accounts of  the discoms since 2002 when power distribution was privatised.

Delhi discoms are a 51:49 per cent joint venture between the private companies and the Delhi government.
