Last Updated 26 February 2015, 16:54 IST

Construction work on Aladdin City, a project inspired by the tales of Aladdin and Sinbad the Sailor, will start in Dubai in 2016, according to a Dubai Municipality announcement.

“We plan to start work on the project next year. We have our own funds to finance the project,” said Hussain Nasser Lootah, director general of the Dubai Municipality, on the sidelines of the third Government Summit which concluded recently.

The project, which was announced in April 2014, will include three towers comprising commercial and hotel spaces, with the towers spread over a distance of 450 metres on Dubai Creek. The total cost has not been revealed. “The project aims to develop towers to be the icons of legends of the past with a touch of beauty and tourism characteristic of the city. It comes in the prime location of Dubai Creek, maintaining the activities of the port heritage,” said Hussain.

Air-conditioned bridges with moving walkways will connect the three towers. The shape of the bridges that will link the buildings represents exotic marine life, such as dragons and snakes. The towers will have a built area of 110,000 sq. metres, with the highest tower rising to 34 storeys. The other two towers will have 26 and 25 floors respectively. There will be a total of 900 parking spaces.
