It was a matter of seconds. Her collegemates who were steps behind escaped while Arpitha fell prey to destiny’s cruelty.

Arpitha joined Sindhi College a year ago to study BCom. The 19-year-old who resided near Devanahalli tahsildar’s office would take the route every day, said her Principal, Prof Pallavi.

According to sources close to the family, Arpitha is survived by her parents and a brother who is physically challenged. Her father Janardhan has a business of his own.

A soft-spoken girl that she was, Arpitha never gave a chance to her teachers to point fingers at her, said her principal. “She did well even academically. She was always cheerful and was someone who loved her life a lot,” said Pallavi.

The bodies of Arpitha and Anand, who was also killed in the accident, were taken to M S Ramiah Hospital where a postmortem would be conducted on Friday.

Kusuma Shree and Akshatha R, both students of Sindhi College managed to escape with injuries. While Kusuma Shree is being treated at Columbia Asia Hospital for a spine injury and right leg, Akshatha was treated as out-patient.

The two girls were on their way for an examination and will not be able to take up the ones scheduled for Friday.

“This is not the first accident of this sort at the same spot. Over and again, we have been requesting better pedestrian facilities and our request has fallen on deaf ears. On Saturday, we will be staging a protest demanding that either a subway or sky walk be constructed,” said Pallavi.
