Unseasonal rains experienced in the region

Overcast conditions gave way to unseasonal rains in parts of South Interior Karnataka, here on Tuesday. Chamarajanagar district received the maximum rainfall in the region, with hail storms reported in few regions of the district.

According to a forecast by Indian Meteorological Department, showers are expected in the evening in the region, during the next few days.

While rainfall brought some respite to residents of the city, hail stones caused minor damages in parts of Chamarajanagar city. No major losses were reported due to the rain. Chamarajanagar, which recorded the maximum rainfall in the region, received up to 54 mm of rainfall in the evening. Rainfall was scattered in other parts of the district, with Gundlupet taluk receiving 28 mm and Kollegal recording 11 mm rainfall during the day. Even though crops were damaged in several parts of the district, the extent of losses is yet to be ascertained.

Light showers were also recorded in other parts of the region. In Mysuru district, which received showers in the evening, Nanjangud received about 5 mm rainfall. Rain was relatively less in other parts of the district. In Mandya, maximum rainfall was recorded in Pandavapura (8 mm).
