Man kills physically challenged brother over property

A man killed his physically challenged brother over a property dispute at Parappana Agrahara on March 1, and lodged a murder complaint with the police to mislead investigators.

According to the police, Thimmaraju alias Dodda Thimmaraya, a driver, murdered his younger brother  Venkatesh, 36, by smashing his head with a boulder and dumped the body near Rayasandra lake.

The next day, the police found the body of Venkatesh lying near Rayasandra lake. They identified it as that of Venkatesh, informed his family members and asked them also to identify it.

Thimmaraju went to the police station and confirmed that the body was indeed that of his brother. He lodged a complaint stating that on March 1, around 8 pm, Venkatesh had left home carrying food for his friends and did not return home.

He said his brother was physically challenged and unemployed and someone known to him might have murdered him and dumped the body in the lake.

 The police registered a case and launched an investigation to trace the suspects. The investigators started questioning the members of Venkatesh’s family and his friends.
When the police grilled Chikkathimmaraya, the other brother of Venkatesh, he revealed that Thimmaraju and Venkatesh were frequently fighting over their ancestral property. Venkatesh had mortgaged their house and spent the money. He also used to pester the family members to divide the property, which they refused to, the police said.

“The police found something fishy and interrogated Thimmaraju who confessed to the crime. On March 1, Venkatesh picked a quarrel with his brother asking him to divide the property.

“He abused him and even tried to attack him. In a fit of rage, Thimmaraju hit Venkatesh with a stone. He suffered grievous injuries on his head and died on the spot,” said a senior police officer.

“Later, with the help of Selvaraj, an autorickhsaw driver, Thimmaraju disposed of Venkatesh’s body in Rayasandra lake and threw the stone he had killed his brother with near a gutter on 24th main HSR Layout. We have detained Selvaraj for questioning and arrested Thimmaraju,” the officer said.
