JOIN USThe City of gardens sprang to life as colours made a splash all around. Bengalureans welcomed the festival of colours by soaking themselves in the spirits of Holi.
The festival brought together people from all walks of life who enjoyed the day by smearing colours and wished their near and dear ones. Parties, get-togethers, cultural evenings and numerous such events marked the as the citizens revelled in the colours of Holi.
They buried their differences, set aside grudges and joined hands to welcome the Spring. Children and youths barged into the streets and neighbourhoods targetting pichkaris (waterguns) and splashing colours.
The City, with its cosmopolitan culture, has wooed people from different regions, who have made Bengaluru their home. Irrespective of their regional roots, they drenched into the colours and savoured the traditional food that is served on this day.
Bhaang and thandais
People from Northern states, residing in various parts of the City, including Indiranagar, Kalyan Nagar, Kammanahalli, Kormangala, Jayanagar, followed a few rituals on the day. They enjoyed gujiyas, pakodas and relished bhaang and thandais. While organic colours founds their way in every household, pichkaris of various sizes and varieties were fancied by children and elders alike.
Rotary members launched “Happy School Project” at the Government Tamil School, New Thippasandra, Indiranagar, as part of the Rotary TEACH mission programme, aimed at helping poor students. Facilities like drinking water units, shoes, library books, among others, will be provided in the first phase.
Students from 37 countries of the Canadian International School (CIS) also celebrated Holi. “It was fun playing with colours. I love the festival,” said Prashant Sunil Lakhwani, a student from CIS. “Rang Utsav,” a three-day holi festival that kickstarted at the Manpho Convention Centre in Nagawara, drew a large crowd that took part in the festivities.
