Commemorating International Women’s Day, Samiidha, an international company that works in the field of holistic health and Olympic sports unveiled an innovative legal and comprehensive portable self-defence device for women. Reportedly, engineers from various countries joined forces under the leadership of Indian martial arts experts and sports medicine doctors to make a small, portable and integrated device which was unveiled by the Nirbhaya’s parents to commemorate her memory, at an event on Women’s Day.

After the innovation in women safety devices and apps like Suraksha, Amrita Personal Safety System (APSS), VithU, Jivi 2010, safetipin etc, the new technology, Bhavani has included all the above qualities and essentials to protect women in time of danger. It is an initiative taken to help women be self-reliant.

The device is an impressive collaboration of the best minds from India, Japan, Germany and United Kingdom.

A small baton which can be easily carried in a purse or handbag, Bhavani comes equipped with electrical, electronic, telecommunication, chemical and mechanical
engineering characteristics. A handy tool, it is powered by a siren with a strobe light, a non-lethal stun gun, a ten-feet throw distance pepper spray,
a panic button which when pressed will send five SOS smses with GPS location to five previously listed members, an active voice call to the first number, a swiss knife and a two feet collapsible baton.

The inbuilt GPRS helps trace the exact location of the victim.
The stun gun serves the purpose of giving non-lethal electric shock, just enough to throw the miscreant one to two feet away. The panic button is to call for help. Samurai baton and the four-inch swiss knife come in handy during physical combat. And all these benefits are designed in a small portable device, which can be easily carried in a handbag.

Samiidha officials said the device is “totally legal and can be purchased separately across the counter in all cities in India.” The device will be available within the next 30 days and talks are on with government and private agencies for distribution. Leading sports and cine personalities will be roped in to promote the safety device.

Speaking to Metrolife, Dr Pavan Kohli, the brain behind Bhavani says, “It’s another milestone in attaining our Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Make in India’. Made in India, this device is a gift from India to women across the globe for their empowerment, and to live with dignity. It took us close to 30 months to conceptualise and devise it,” he said. A leading Indian orthopaedic and joint replacement surgeon, Dr Kohli is also working with international Olympic sportsmen for performance enhancement in international competitions.

In Indian mythology, Bhavani was the consort of Mahadev and the goddess of valour and protection. A slayer of asuras and criminals, she was also the benefactress of the Maratha leader Shivaji. Bhavani’s creators hope the safety device will empower and increase self confidence and positivity in the women.
