A six-year-old boy who had failed to return home after leaving for school on Monday was found killed in a forested area near his school in south Delhi’s Pul Prahladpur on Tuesday.

Police said investigations so far have thrown up no clue. Police also ruled out any sexual abuse angle in the case.

Victim Vijay was a resident of Kheri village in Faridabad. He studied in class 2 at a government school in Delhi which is about three kilometres from his home.

He left for school on Monday morning but did not return home in the evening. Investigations later revealed that he had not attended the school that day.

“His parents had launched a search for him in the evening, but they had not approached local police in Faridabad,” a police officer told Deccan Herald.

The boy’s body, still in school uniform, was discovered about 500 metres away from the school at 8 am on Tuesday by some locals who had visited the forested area.

Police were informed and the body sent for a post-mortem. “There were several stab injuries on the face. But the death was possibly caused by a puncture wound on the neck,” said the officer.

The boy was identified from an ID card and his parents were informed. His clothes were generally intact and police said the preliminary medical test ruled out any sexual abuse.

A police team was dispatched to his home and his family and neighbours were questioned. His father works as a whitewasher. No ransom call was received by the family.
