A deft attempt at thriller

Master Mind
Kannada (U/A)Cast: Raj Vardhan, Kumar Govind, Tamanna Pasha, Divya Gowda, Bullet Prakash
Director: Kumar Govind

Slick and stylish, Master Mind, could have been taut thriller, but for lacking polish and panache.

A brave attempt at mimicking a nuanced mystery, Kumar Govind would have had a winner, if he had pushed the technical envelope to perfection. A taut script and finer editing, is what Master Mind woefully lacks as it indulges audiences in an interesting mind game at the movies.

Set against seamy underbelly of Bangkok and Pattaya, Kumar Govind’s Master Mind, is a compact two-hour thriller. It should have audiences rooting for it, despite quintessential flaws.

Basking under the joy of having landed cushy job, architect Raj with wife Anu in tow, jets into Bangkok. His bliss is shortlived as his pregnant wife is spirited away and he is incarcerated for three years by a mysterious man.

How Raj is led to discover the reasons and lured into a Game of Death forms the pivot of Master Mind.

Suffice to say Master Mind may not be masterly but much, much better than the weekly tripe dished out at theatres.
