Officials get notice for 'harassing' man who filed plaint against minister's son

Upalokayukta Justice Subhash B Adi has issued notice to SP, Lokayukta, Mysuru, inspectors of two police stations, Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies and tahsildar T Narsipur, Mysuru, on charges of harassing R Basavaraju, who had filed a complaint against Sunil Bose, son of Public Works Minister H C Mahadevappa.

Basavaraju had filed a complaint with the Mysuru Lokayukta police in 2010 stating that a senior geologist and Sunil Bose were involved in illegal sand transportation and corruption.

The Lokayukta police had trapped the geologist and filed charge sheet against him. He claimed though there were evidence against Bose, no action was taken against him. As the Lokayukta police ommitted the name of the minister's son, Basavaraju approached the jurisdictional court and filed a protest memo. Meanwhile, two ‘false’ cases were filed against Basavaraju at the Lakshmipuram police station and T Narsipur police station in Mysuru.

“The complainant stated that Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies, Mysuru, Rameshwarappa and tahsildar T Narsipur Chowdaiah have filed false complaints against him.

He said that the Mysuru district authorities have been misusing office and abusing the power to harass him, only because he has filed a complaint against the minister's son.

The police have not even registered his complaints, despite he getting life threats. The allegation appears to be serious and it requires a report from the officers concerned,” Justice Adi said.

The Upalokayukta has directed the officials to submit the report on March 30.
