Woman employee confronts robbers, foils bank robbery bid

The bravery of a private bank employee here Friday foiled a bank robbery bid, police said. Pooja, a cashier of ICICI bank on the busy Gurudwara road, confronted the robbers and foiled the robbery bid.

Two men, in their mid-twenties visited the branch in the afternoon on Friday and came back later in the evening.

"They entered the bank and holding cashier Shweta at gun-point asked her to hand over the cash she had. Another cashier Pooja raised the alarm and confronted one of the robbers," a senior police officer told IANS.

Seeing Pooja confront the robber, assistant manager Brijesh Mishra stepped forward to help her, the officer said.

Stunned by the reaction of the bank employee, both the robbers fled leaving two pistols behind.

The bank is located in the high security zone of Civil Lines. Several traffic policemen usually remain on duty barely 10 metres from the bank.

Police said they were examining the CCTV cameras footage. The robbers were not wearing any mask and they would be arrested soon, said an officer.

An armed guard who is usually posted at the main entrance of the bank was absent.
