JOIN USMLAs, regardless of their political affiliation, on Friday demanded a transparent and efficient system for implementing and monitoring grants provided to the social welfare department.
Participating in a discussion on the budget proposals for 2015-16 in the Legislative Assembly, H K Kumaraswamy (JD-S) said grants to the tune of Rs 16,000 crore were allocated for social welfare schemes in the State last financial year. However, there was no proper system to ensure that the grants reach the beneficiaries. Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa suggested that an action plan be chalked out to make best use of grants. Govind Karjol (BJP) said a huge chunk of the grants remained unutilised due to poor implementation of the scheme.
Public Works Minister H C Mahadevappa said the government was planning to come out with a new system to manage social welfare schemes.
