Citizens exhorted to avail Jan Dan account benefits

Syndicate Bank Regional Manger H V Baramgowdar said public should avail benefits of Jan Dhan Yojana through financial transactions in the accounts opened under the scheme.

Speaking at the quarterly meeting of District Level Review Committee for Banking in Udupi, Baramgowdar said many account holders have not taken the Rupay card. He said the financial transaction would enable the account holder to avail the benefits of Jan Dhan Yojana. He said nearly 50 per cent account holders are not into the financial transactions.  If the account holder fails to make use of the account, he or she will be deprived of OD facilities and insurance schemes. He added that Adhar registration camps are held at rural areas and special camps would be held to facilitate the disabled in the days to come, he added.

He said total deposits of the banking sector in the district stood at Rs 15,241 crore registering a year-on-year growth of 16.44 per cent  and total advances stood at Rs 7686 crore with the year on year growth of 18.72 per cent as on December 2014. He added The credit to deposit ratio stood at 50.43  per cent. During the third quarter of the year, 2014-15 banks disbursed loans to the extent of Rs 2,910 crore against the annual target of Rs 5,066 crore, thus recording 87.46 per cent  achievement. Of this, Rs 582 crore is disbursed to agriculture sector, Rs 525 crore was to tiny and small scale industry sector against annual target of Rs 1,193.53 crore, Rs 630 crore disbursed to tertiary sector against annual target of Rs 1,435.33 crore. The total disbursal under priority sector was Rs 1,737.56 crore as against annual target of Rs 4,296.44 crore. During third quarter, Rs 1,173 crore was disbursed against a target of Rs 769.92 crore to non priority sector.

He said out of the total advances in the district, the share of credit for the up-liftment of the weaker sections was Rs 1,067 crore (outstanding) covering 91,515 beneficiaries. This includes Rs 132.22 crore lent to 17,992 SC/ST beneficiaries. As at the end of the review period, 42,540 beneficiaries belonging to minority communities have been financially assisted to the extent of Rs 715.51 crore (outstanding), which is 14.64 per cent of the priority sector as against a stipulated level of 15 per cent.

Further, the number of women financed by banks stood at 1,08,790 with an outstanding amount of Rs 1,328.50 crore which was 17.28 per cent of the total advances as against the stipulated level of 5 per cent. The total amount of education loans was Rs 298.74 crore to 15,379 students, of which, Rs 46.24 crore is sanctioned to 3,405 students up to end of the third quarter of the year. He said under Kisan Credit Card scheme there was an outstanding level of Rs 254.19 crore covering 29,265 card holders, he added.
