Last Updated 30 March 2015, 21:23 IST

The SSLC examinations began on Monday with the first language paper, which, many students said, was relatively easy.

Rohith V, a student from K K English High School, Varthur, who wrote his Kannada language examination on the day, said that the paper was divided into three sections - prose and poetry, grammar and comprehension.

“While the first part was quite easy, there were some portions in grammar that were a bit tough. However, I am hoping to get above 90 marks out of 100,” he said.

Another student, Amith Bhardwaj from Poorna Prajna School, Tippasandra, who wrote his Sanskrit examination, said, “All the questions came from the syllabus and they were quite easy. There was nothing that came outside of the textbook,” he said.

Besides Kannada and Sanskrit, the other first language papers are Telugu, Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Urdu and English. The examination was for 100 marks with 25 marks for internal assessments. This is the first batch of students who will be appearing for the examinations, which have been modelled after the CBSE examinations.

Speaking with Deccan Herald, H Manjunath, secretary, Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board, said there were no cases of malpractice reported from any of the centres.

“The examination went on peacefully,” he said.

Around 8.56 lakh students are appearing for the SSLC examinations this time across 3,038 centres in the State. The exam will end with the Social Science paper on April 13. The evaluation will begin on April 19 at 211 centres.
