Lady, put your feet up and relax!

ME TIME

Relaxation is a very important activity, especially for women. But sadly enough, we are programmed to ignore it and associate it with laziness. For today’s women who handle family and professional lives, it’s important to stay calm, relaxed, rejuvenated and energised to keep up with the pressures of everyday routine. Even the homemakers are no exception; they are also under immense stress, trying to manage everything.

There are many ways in which one can let their hair down. Holidays are often considered the best stress buster. But with packed schedules, personal and professional constraints, one may not always be able to take a holiday. In such circumstances, the best way to deal with everyday pressure is to blow off a little steam everyday. This way, there is no pent-up frustration.

Relaxing on a day-today basis is important to carry out your everyday tasks, even the simple ones. Here are some ways you can loosen up, without letting yourself go:

Take a break

You need to take a break from your routine at least once a week. For instance, if you have been making breakfast every morning, take a break for a day. You can, may be, make arrangements for it to be delivered from outside. In the free time that you get, try to relax a little.

You could go for a walk, catch up on some extra sleep or watch some television. If you are a music lover, listen to some melodies, or if you have green fingers, indulge in some gardening. Or better still, catch up with your friends, or you could just end up doing particularly nothing, if that’ll relax you.

Give it a ‘fresh’ twist

Relaxing need not be dedicated time; sometimes it’s not possible to devote special time for relaxation. In such cases, the best strategy would be to relax while on the job. It could be at home or at office. Placing a plant on your work desk will bring in some freshness.

Listen to some soothing music while doing your job,  provided, of course, it does not hamper your work. The idea is to bring some element of freshness to your mundane activities, so that you do not feel dead tired at the end of the day.

Socialise with friends

Make it a point to talk to your close friends or siblings at least once a week. You need to take the initiative and make time for all this. Now that there are so many social networking websites and apps, use the opportunity to reconnect with old friends and stay in touch with acquaintances. It would be good to spare a couple of hours in a week from the routine to connect with others. Relaxation will rest both, the body and mind. Also, you can take up a hobby, which you can not just afford, but also enjoy.

Seek spiritual solace

If you are a religious or spiritual person, then visiting a religious place once a week would be an excellent option. Also, meditation and yoga will help in relaxing to quite an extent. Physical exercise for a few minutes, at least four days a week, will see you in good spirits.

Stop worrying

Some of us worry unnecessarily, even when everything is fine and there is no pressure or stress. Some people are always worried about the ‘what- if’ scenario. Stop worrying without reason. Instead, start relaxing by doing something you are very comfortable with, something which is not taxing.

Ask for help

When there is lot of work to be done at home or office, it’s hard to keep the stress levels low, as you’re always worried about striking a balance. Wherever possible, seek help from your family members to help you out in the household work. At office, if you have a team, do delegate the work - but do so reasonably. This way, you will be able to spare a few hours in the  week for some relaxation.

Remember, only stretch yourself as much as you can. Going beyond does not mean sacrificing ‘me time’. You can be an efficient, loving, caring person, even when you take a few minutes off to do what you really want to do.
