Revenue and District in-charge Minister V Srinivas Prasad, on Saturday, officially launched the socio, educational census — vastly known as caste census — in the district, by providing his personal information.

Prasad furnished the information when the enumerators visited his residence ‘Bheema Sadana’ at Jayalakshmipuram during the evening hours. The minister answered to 54 questions in the questionnaire to a team of enumerators led by Supervisor G Prabhudevaraj, including S Lokeshwari and C Vanajakshi.

The minister disclosed that he was aged 67 and practices Buddhism as a religion, belongs to Scheduled Caste and Adikarnataka sub-caste. He is a LPG distributor, having an annual income of Rs 16 lakh. He studied at a Government School in Ashokapuram and married Bhagyalakshmi at the age of 18, were the other details provided by the minister.

Speaking to media later, the minister appealed to the people to make use of the opportunity and provide complete details to the enumerators. It will help in strengthening social justice and uplift of economically and socially backward people belonging to the oppressed classes.

The minister said, “Those opposing the census have vested interests and there is a need to trace the background of such people. One can ensure equality by practicing what he or she preaches”.

Full-fledge

District Officer of the department of Backward Classes Welfare G S Somashekar said, while the first two days are meant for preparation and verification of old documents, the full-fledge exercise will be taken out from Monday.

A total of 5,994 blocks have been constituted, with 5,417 enumerators and 884 supervisors.

IIT in Raichur

Welcoming the recent assertion of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, favouring Raichur to set up the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) as announced in the Central budget, the minister said: “It will help in giving importance to the development of that part of the State. We should also think on the lines of quelling the call for separate Statehood”.
