Batting for IPL

New wave
Last Updated 15 April 2015, 15:38 IST

The previous seasons of Indian Premier League (IPL) have left behind a lot of muck and a few players were allegedly caught on the wrong foot. However, cricket lovers seem unperturbed by all that and are ready to lap up all the action and fun happening on and off the pitch.

For youngsters, IPL is also a chance to get together and have their kind of fun. Come what may, they don’t want to miss out on even a second of the fun during the two months of non-stop action. They tell ‘Metrolife’ why they look forward to it.
 Cultural mix

Disha Sharma, a student of BBM, St Joseph’s College of Commerce says, “IPL is more about bringing cricketers from different countries together. It’s a potpourri of different cultures. Even at the stadium, we find not only Royal Challengers Bangalore supporters but people who root for other teams as well. But it would be good if IPL could also set aside sometime to promote a social cause. I am sure it will make a difference.”

Unique forum

Clinton Bernard, a student of BCom from St Joseph’s College of Commerce says, “It’s only during IPL that we cricket crazy fans get to see all the world class players on a single forum.
I know IPL has its share of controversies such as betting and spot-fixing but I think we should focus more on the players and the game  rather than get stuck in these issues.”

Idol talk

Om Ram,  a student of BCM from Dayananda Sagar Institutions says, “Some people feel that there’s too much hype around the IPL but I think the hype is totally justified and it deserves all the publicity it can get because cricket is a popular sport.”

“I am a big fan of Virat Kohli and I not only imbibe his style but have also changed my hairstyle to resemble his.”

Good package

Simran Sharma, a student of BBM, St Joseph’s College of Commerce says, “I don’t follow cricket and honestly, I find the sport quite boring and monotonous. Having said that,
I am addicted to the IPL. I like this format of cricket because it comes packaged in an attractive way and is loaded with entertainment. The IPL has also made a lot of women watch cricket and follow the sport.”

Live action

Tilak AV, a student of BCom from Oxford College says, “I have never missed a single IPL match that has been held in the City. Be it rain or shine, a  bunch of us always get the tickets well in advance to make sure we watch all the matches live. IPL is not only about cricket but also about a lot of entertainment. We like to go to the stadium in a big gang and hoot and cheer for our favourite teams. The joy of watching it live cannot be explained.”
