Haryana edge SPSB to enter semifinals

Riding on a treble from Rajant (26th, 27th, 65th), Haryana edged past Steel Plant Sports Board 4-3 to enter the semifinals of the Hockey India Junior Men’s National Championship (A Division) here on Sunday.

With both the teams tied on six points, it was a must win game, with the winner advancing to the last four stage.

Rajant struck twice in the second quarter as Haryana went into the half time leading 2-0. Janma Majhi (34th) pulled one back for Steel Sports but Haryana surged ahead through a strike from Santa Singh in the 45th minute. But 11 minutes later, Anand Kumar scored the much needed equaliser for Steel Plant but Rajant netted his third goal in the final quarter to seal the match in Haryana’s favour.
