Apartment manager fences razed compound wall

High drama prevailed on the third day of the demolition drive to clear encroachments at Sarakki Lake, when the site manager of an apartment complex erected a barbed wire fence over the razed compound wall.

The compound wall of Elita Promenade was demolished on Friday, and it came as a shock to the Revenue department officials to see a fence erected at the spot on Sunday. Additional Deputy Commissioner, Bengaluru Urban, L C Nagaraj said the site manager of Keppel Puravankara had put up the fence.

Criminal complaint

Tahsildar Dr Dayanand has filed a criminal complaint against the site manager Nagesh and Col Jagadish for obstructing government officials from discharging their duty and for putting up a fence after demolition.

“We are in the process of surveying the building for suspected encroachment of a portion of this apartment. A few residents led by site manager Nagesh argued that the fence was put up to avoid stray dogs from entering the apartment complex. There was an altercation between our officials and a group of people from the apartment.

“Our contention is that they should have put up the fence at least four feet away from the compound wall which was demolished on Friday. The site manager told us that the
owner of the apartment directed him to fence the spot,” Nagaraj said.

Soon, tahsildar Bengaluru South Dr Dayanand lodged a complaint against site manager and Col Jagadish for the fence. The Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF) has registered an FIR in this regard.

“A detailed survey will reveal whether a portion of the apartment, as suspected, has encroached upon government gomala land. The apartment was built in 2006 and it looks like some villagers had sold the land by suppressing the fact that it was gomala land. We are looking into the land records on Monday,” Nagaraj said.

The eviction of encroachments on the Sarakki lake bed area in JP Nagar continued on Sunday. About 30 tipper vehicles were engaged to clear the debris from the sites. A senior official said that three houses were also demolished on
Sunday.
