DK, HDK engage in war of words

Last Updated 20 April 2015, 20:14 IST

The Legislative Assembly on Monday witnessed a war of words between Energy Minister  D K Shivakumar and former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy that even led to the former addressing the latter in singular.

Kumaraswamy was participating in a discussion on the Karnataka Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Bill -2015 that proposes to restructure Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike.
At one point Kumaraswamy said while the houses built by the poor in Sarakki lake was being demolished, houses built by influential persons including senior officials and ministers on lakes were left untouched.

Kumaraswamy’s statement seems to have touched a raw nerve in Shivakumar. “If you have the guts then reveal the names... do not beat around the bush,” Shivakumar said in a raised voice.

Kumaraswamy said he would expose the encroachers and he need not take advice from Shivakumar.

As the war of words continued, Shivakumar was heard addressing Kumaraswamy in singular.

However, Kumaraswamy did not respond to Shivakumar’s challenge.

As members objected to tone of Shivakumar, Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa said he would expunge from records any ‘disrespectful’ statements against members.
