A team of officials from Revenue and Endowments departments, led by Bengaluru North Tahsildar Shivappa Lamani, on Tuesday carried out an anti-encroachment drive and reclaimed the encroached portion of Kacharakanahalli lake bed area near Hennur on which four temples and a choultry had come up.

As per the civil court order, no demolition was carried out on the encroached site. The team recovered the property falling under survey number 153 Kacharakanahalli village and took as many as 11 temple hundis and other movable and immovable property into their possession.

The temples will be handed over to the Endowments department. The authorities have put up a signboard reading “henceforth the property belongs to the government” on the site.

“Four temples, Sriram Mandir, Satya Sai Temple, ISKCON and Kannika Parameshwari Temple which had come up on the encroached portion of the lake, have been reclaimed. Also, a choultry nearby has been taken over. We had earlier issued notice and planned to carryout an eviction drive. The temple management had approached the civil court and got a stay some three to four months back. As the court had ordered that temple structures should not be brought down, we could just acquire the property," said Tahsildar, Shivappa Lamani.

The Revenue department officials have said that four acres and nine guntas of land has been recovered during the eviction drive carried out on Tuesday.About 57 acres of land, falling under survey number 13, is part of the now-parched Kacharakanahalli lake. Of which, 37 acres of land has been fenced. “We have issued notice to 21 others who have encroached on the lake land and will soon take up demolition.”
