Dance festival
Last Updated 22 April 2015, 16:02 IST

Shrishti Vishwa Nrithya Utsav 2015’, a mega-dance event will be held from April 29 onwards, across five venues in the City. The colourful show will bring together dancers from across India. The event is organised by Dr AV Satyanarayana, the director of Srishti Center of Performing Arts and Institute of Dance Therapy.

The festival will see about 55 presentations by 31 troupes from the City, three troupes from outside and 20 troupes from outside Karnataka.

More than 200 dancers will present recitals like bharathanatyam, odissi, kathak, sattriya, dances for classical film songs and two dance-dramas.

Some of the highlights of the festival are ‘Astha Lakshmi Dance Feature’ by Dharani and group, the ‘sattriya’ dance recital and seven kathak presentations which are a tribute to the legendary dancer Maya Rao. A number of child prodigies will also take to stage. The ‘Shrishti National Achievement Award for Dance’ will also be presented to Pandit Birju Maharaj.

A dance-drama titled ‘Mahan Buddha’ by Dr AV Satyanarayana will also be held. He will present about 72 characters from ‘Buddhacharitha’ and shows the different life stages of Buddha in a one-man recital.

Satyanarayana says that the show aims to provide a platform to non-influential artistes. “This is also a celebration to commemorate ‘World Dance Day’, on April 29, and celebrate the emotions of peace and cordiality through dance,” he says.

He adds, “It is a way to celebrate the expressions which are not only integral to dance but one that are also universal.”The main purpose of ‘Dance Day’ is to attract the attention of the wider public to the art of dance. Satyanarayana feels that Indian dance should be promoted a lot more as no other cultural aspect will incorporate an integration of the body, mind and emotion like dance.
He says that though availing sponsorship is one of the main challenges of a big event like this, he hopes that the show will reach out to a wider audience this year.
