Bangalore Jan 17 DH News Service

Religious leaders should not take political mileage in the name of religion. They must restrict themselves to serve for welfare of the humanity, said Governor H R Bhardwaj.

Speaking at the World Peace conference organised by the Oswal Parishad on here Sunday, the Governor said that religious leaders must come together and work towards protecting cows.

He said that while people have been speaking against animal sacrifice from Nehru’s period, laws are yet to be enforced strictly. The Governor said that Jain Community is the sole religion to preach the ahimsa towards animals.

Accord facilities

"Jain community must be recognised as a minority group and must get all the facilities from the government," he said.

He added that Jain literature is a major part of Kannada literature and some of the best works are written by Jain poets and scholars. Krishnagiri Shaktipeeta's swami Dr Vasanth Guruji, Inderchand Dudhedia, president, Raichand Khated, chairman of Oswal Parishad were present on the occasion.
