Muddy water at basement damages vehicles

Last Updated 24 April 2015, 20:04 IST

Torrential rain on Thursday night wreaked havoc at an apartment in Domlur when sewage mixed water broke the retaining wall of an adjoining stormwater drain and gushed into its basement, damaging many vehicles.

Chethan, a resident of the apartment, called Deccan Herald and said families living in Natasha Golf View apartment suffered maximum damage due to the rainfall. He complained that the SWD is completely choked with mud.

“Mud has been dumped into the drain due to which the water began overflowing. Later, the retaining wall of the drain gave way drowning our vehicles,” said Chethan.

The stormwater drain has become a bone of contention between the Domlur golf course managers and a mighty builder who has not only reduced its width but also has covered it as a ‘box-drain.’ Due to the ‘development’ of the stormwater drain, as BBMP refers to the covering of the drain, Domlur golf course was once flooded during monsoon.
