Garbage truck crushes woman to death

A 50-year-old woman was killed when a BBMP garbage truck ran over her in Malleswaram on Friday.

According to the Malleswaram traffic police, the deceased is Geetharani, a resident of Palace Guttahalli and a first division assistant with the Commercial Taxes department in Yeshwantpur.

The accident occurred at 10 am, when Geetharani was on her way to work. She was riding pillion on a two-wheeler with her husband Shashibhushan Aradhya on the 4th Main Road. When Shashibhushan suddenly braked to negotiate an approaching road hump, she lost balance and fell off the two-wheeler. The driver of a BBMP garbage truck following the bike did not apply brakes in time and the front wheel ran over her head, said the police.

Shashibhushan too had fallen on the road unable to control the bike. Assisted by a few local residents, he shifted Geetharani to KC General Hospital, but she was declared dead on arrival, said the police.

The driver fled the spot along with the truck. The police collected the truck registration number from CCTV footage of the road. The driver tried to escape after abandoning the truck at Hebbal. With the help of the truck owner, the police arrested the driver, Narasappa.

Delivery boy killed

A 27-year-old delivery boy died after crashing into a road median near RMC Yard on Thursday. His friend sustained severe injuries in the accident.
According to the police, the deceased, Raju, was a resident of Mathikere and worked in a hotel nearby. Around 11.30 pm, a customer ordered food from the hotel. Raju and Abhishek set out to deliver the food at  Goraguntepalya on the latter’s bike. Raju rode pillion, said the police.

Abhishek lost control of the speeding bike in the heavy rain, and collided with a road divider. Both Abhishek and Raju fell off the two-wheeler and suffered severe head injuries, said the police.

They were shifted to a nearby hospital, where Raju succumbed to his injuries. Abhishek is being treated for head and shoulder injuries.
The accident occurred due to reckless driving. A case has been registered against Abhishek, said the police.

Guard electrocuted

A security guard was electrocuted when he tried to switch on a motor in a parking area submerged in rain water in Sheshadripuram on Friday morning.
According to the police, the deceased is Rajashekharaiah, 52, a native of Tumakuru. He worked in a private law college in Sheshadripuram and lived in a PG accommodation.
Following Thursday’s downpour, the parking lot was submerged in water. Rajashekharaiah went to the electrical board to switch the motor on to flush out the accumulated rainwater.

He was electrocuted when he touched the board, said the police.
A few staff members noticed Rajashekharaiah lying on the ground and informed the police around 7.15 am. The Sheshadripuram police registered a case against the college management.
