Quake: PM speaks to CMs of Bihar, Sikkim

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today spoke to chief ministers of Bihar and Sikkim amid efforts to get information about the situation after a powerful earthquake struck north India.


"We are in the process of finding more information and are working to reach out to those affected, both at home & in Nepal," he tweeted immediately after the quake whose epicentre was in Nepal and measured 7.5 on the Richter scale.


The PMO later tweeted that Modi spoke to the chief ministers of Bihar and Sikkim.
"PM @narendramodi has spoken to Bihar CM Shri @NitishKumarJDU ji in connection with the Earthquake.In the wake of the Earthquake, PM has spoken to Sikkim CM Shri Pawan Chamling," PMO tweeted.


The Prime Minister also spoke to the President of Nepal Ram Baran Yadav.

"PM is trying to reach Nepal PM Shri Sushil Koirala, who is abroad. He has spoken to President of Nepal Shri Ram Baran Yadav," the PMO tweeted.

A strong quake hit near Nepal's capital Kathmandu, damaging many houses.

The PMO has spoken to the Indian Embassy in Bhutan in the wake of the quake. The Embassy is in touch with top Bhutan officials as well.

The Prime Minister also spoke to UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav about the quake.
