Funds to build tennis court Promised

Minister for Sports and Youth Empowerment Abhaychandra Jain assured to release Rs 1.31 crore to construct a tennis court in the district stadium.

Speaking at the inauguration of swimming pool built at a cost of Rs 2 crore at  Ajjarkadu district stadium on Saturday, he said as tennis is a world game, there is a need to promote the game at higher level. 

Although tennis is slowly vanishing from erstwhile Dakshina Kannada district, the only organisation responsible for survival of tennis in this part of region is Brahmavar Sports Club.

He also assured funds to furnish the newly inaugurated swimming pool with shelters covering the premises and lauded Rajya Sabha member for his contributions to promote sports in Udupi and Mangaluru.

Earlier, speaking after unveiling a plaque to inaugurate the swimming pool, Rajya Sabha MP Oscar Fernandez assured funds to promote basketball in the district, thereby boosting all other sports activities.

Stating that he would release funds from his MP Lad Development Funds for constructing basketball courts in all government schools, he said there is no dearth of talents in India. He said sports are good for well being of health, especially swimming would enhance physical activities that would reduce stress and obesity related diseases.
