Anand Kumar’s Super 30 initiative in Patna will soon open its doors to students from Karnataka. It will conduct a competitive examination for students of classes 10, 11 and 12 in a few months.

Speaking to Deccan Herald on the sidelines of the mathematics workshop, Mathemagic, here on Saturday, he said, “At least three or four students from poor financial background will be selected for the programme based on their talent. The test will be held in a few months,” he said.

Besides, these three or four students, others who do well in the test will also be eligible for a number of prizes. These, however, may not be necessarily from the unprivileged background, he said. “Three students will be taken on a foreign education tour. Two others will be taken on a trip to top institutes such as IIMs and IITs within the country. Forty to 50 children will get consolation prizes and another 50 students will get a crash course in maths and science,” he said.

Anand also plans to start an online platform within a year’s time to reach more students. “The Massachusetts Institute of Technology has agreed to provide us the platform for this initiative,” he said.

When asked if the Super 30 initiative will be expanded to include more students in the future, he said: “More students will definitely be enrolled. However, it will still be called Super 30,” he said.

On a query by a schoolteacher from the audience, Deepak C N, about various teacher training programmes, Anand said already 10 teachers were being trained at his facility. “There are a number of graduates from the IITs, and you, too, are welcome to join us,” he told Deepak.
