A Dalit girl was killed after being allegedly gang-raped by four youths in Uttar Pradesh’s Etah district, about 300 kilometres from here.
According to reports, the body of the victim was found hanging from a tree in a field distance away from her house on Friday.
A case has been registered against the alleged culprits and a manhunt launched to nab them, police sources said.
Reports said the victim had gone out to collect cattle feed from the fields at dawn when she was abducted by the culprits.
Family members, who launched a search for her when she did not return home after several hours, found her body hanging from the tree.
The family members alleged that the feet of the victim touched the ground making it clear that she had been killed before being hanged.
They also alleged that she had been gang-raped. Police sources said there were injury marks on the neck, chest and head of the victim.
They said a dupatta was also found around her neck.The officials did not rule out the possibility of rape. Police said the body had been sent for a post-mortem.
They added that rape could be confirmed only after slide test.
Special teams have been formed to nab the culprits, the officials said. Sources said her marriage was scheduled next month.
A large number of BSP workers led by former UP minister Rajveer Singh later reached the village and held a demonstration demanding immediate arrest of the absconding culprits.
Barely a few months back, a girl had been killed after being raped in the district and her body had been hanged from a tree.
