JOIN USSenior lexicographer Prof G Venkatasubbaiah was presented with Basavashree Award by the Basava Samithi here on Sunday. The organisation also honoured author K C Shivappa and musician Sangeetha Katti with Sahithyashree award.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Water Resources, M B Patil, who is also the president of BLDE University, said the educational institution was in the process of translating Vachanas, and funds up to Rs 2 crore were allotted for this.
The translations would be done in several languages including Hindi, English, French, Italian and Spanish among others. The works would come out in two volumes.
The first volume would be an introduction to Basavanna's life, history and selected Vachanas. The second volume would be a comprehensive compilation of the Vachanas.
Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers Ananth Kumar said Basavanna had envisioned a society built on equality, eight centuries ago. It was the responsibility of the present day governments to imbibe these values, he added.
