Renault India targets doubling of market share

Last Updated 27 April 2015, 18:47 IST

Renault India is planning to more than double its market share over the next two years aided by its new launches and increased dealership network.

“Our current market share is around two per cent. We want to achieve a five per cent share by end-2016. Our new offering Lodgy, and our yet to be launched hatchback in the sub Rs 4 lakh segment will help us achieve this target,” Renault India country chief executive officer and managing director Sumit Sawhney said.

“We plan to have over 280 sales outlets and 305 service outlets by end-2016,” Sawhney said. He added that most of the additions would be in the tier-3 and tier-4 cities.

According to Sawhney, the company is also looking at the prospect of exporting Lodgy and doubling its volumes in the current year. “Renault is currently catering to the domestic market for Lodgy as of now. We will look forward to export opportunities in right-hand drive markets initially as and when we plan to export,” he said.

“Last year, we sold around 49,000 units and exported around 18,000-20,000 units. On the back of the launch of the Lodgy and the small car, we expect to more than double volumes this year,” he added.
