A 40-year-old man who was allegedly involved in three murders over the last three years has been arrested. Ajay Kumar had been released from jail in 2012 after being acquitted in the case by the Delhi High Court.

Since then, Kumar had been into extortion and had been involved in many cases of gang war for gaining supremacy in the south part of Delhi, police alleged.

In the latest case, Kumar was allegedly involved in a murder which was reported from Sangam Vihar on April 5. Kumar and six of his associates had abducted and murdered two members of a rival gang.

Earlier on November 22 last year, a shootout between two gangs, including one led by Kumar, in Neb Sarai led to the death of a youth and injuries to five others. Police said the two gangs were vying for control over gambling and drug trafficking in the area. Two days prior to that shootout, Kumar and his associates shot at a motorcyclist. The bullet failed to hit the target upon which a case of attempt to murder was registered at Neb Sarai.

Police said Kumar began his foray into the crime world by indulging in robberies. He was arrested for two murders and was lodged in jail for a few years before being acquitted by the Delhi High Court.

Before entering into crime, Kumar was assisting his father in his refrigeration and welding business. A father to two girls, Kumar separated from his family after he began committing crimes.

He was arrested from Nehru Place on Friday by a crime branch team after they received a tip-off of his whereabouts.
