Adapting to a new country

Last Updated 13 May 2015, 17:21 IST
I hail from Kolkata and have just finished my MBA with a grade equivalent to a higher first class from Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge, United Kingdom. At Anglia Ruskin, you’ll be part of a thriving community of people keen to move ahead, led by inspiring, award-winning tutors.

You’ll also benefit from the university’s strong industry links. Each year, the Lord Ashcroft International Business School supports some 2,000 businesses, who are always looking for bright, talented people. Students can also get involved – if they have a business idea, Anglia Ruskin has a Startup Lab, a mentoring programme and other enterprising initiatives to sharpen it. The starting salary for graduates from Anglia Ruskin’s Lord Ashcroft International Business School is £31,250, which is £10,000 above the UK average.  These are amongst the reasons why my university was named the UK Entrepreneurial University of the Year at the Times Higher Education Awards, 2014.

Anglia Ruskin also has a great atmosphere and provides a varied range of facilities for students. There are also some special facilities for international students to help them adapt to a new country, new studies and a new life, including assistance with language if required. One of the many things I like about my university is that they are continuously trying to improve their quality and services.

Initially I was a bit nervous about how I would cope but as time passed I got used to the new life. Proper use of the relevant facilities offered by Anglia Ruskin helped me settle in. With reference to the studies, I won’t say it was easy but with hard work and appropriate use of the amenities, achieving good marks is certainly possible. In addition to the education, the university also offers a good social life.

When I was looking for a reputed international business school, my relatives in the UK recommended Anglia Ruskin for my Master’s degree based on its reputation. So for me, the decision to join this university was easier. After admission, before the course started, there was a comprehensive orientation programme which helped me get an overview about the university and also particular courses. The university also arranges ‘open days’ where prospective students and their family can come and visit the campus and get to know all the services provided by them.

The library has a huge collection of books and journals etc, and the online library has an even wider range of study materials, which is very useful for research and assignment preparation. ‘Quiet zones’ inside the library provide a calm and quiet environment for personal studies and the library can be accessed any time of the day. If you are looking to join a business course in the UK, come to a modern, global university where students are rated among the most confident in the country. More than 36,000 individuals from 177 countries gain qualifications with us in four continents every year at Anglia Ruskin University.
