Suresh Kumar, Kumaraswamy flay demolition drive

Last Updated 14 May 2015, 20:14 IST

A day after Congress MLC V S Ugrappa attacked Opposition leaders H D Kumaraswamy and Suresh Kumar for making public the House Committee proceedings, the duo took a jibe at the MLC for his lack of knowledge about the Constitution.

On Wednesday, Ugrappa had said the Congress would move a privilege motion against the MLAs (who are members of the House Committee), if they continued to reveal the proceedings of the Committee.

Speaking with mediapersons separately on Thursday in Bengaluru, both Suresh Kumar and Kumaraswamy attacked the government for carrying out the demolition drive even before the House Committee report was furnished. This amounted to contempt of House, they said.

Kumaraswamy said that the government had failed to furnish relevant documents pertaining to lakes, making it difficult to compile the House Committee report.

Questioning Ugrappa’s expertise in the matter, Suresh Kumar added that he was ready to face the privilege motion and go even go to jail if need be.

Violation

BJP MLA Jagadish Kumar charged that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Food and Civil Supplies Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao had violated the model code of conduct by posting their pictures on one-litre oil packets and one-kg salt packets given under the public distribution scheme. The BJP would file a complaint with the State Election Commission with regard to this.

He said that the Congress leaders were indulging in self-promotion eyeing the gram panchayat polls.

He also said that the Supreme Court too had given a verdict stating that political leaders should not promote themselves through public programmes.
