Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday defended his cabinet colleague and Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar over latter’s remark on “neutralising terrorists through terrorists” and said that everyone knew who was encouraging terrorism.

In an informal interaction with reports here, Singh said that Pakistan must cooperate in the efforts to deal with the problem of terrorism. “We are taking every step to tackle terrorism...Pakistan must also cooperate,” the minister said.

“We had always asked Pakistan to deal with terrorism sternly....now that country was also a victim of the menace,” he remarked.

Singh, in reply to a query, said that the Muslims were “nationalists” and they had proven that they were opposed to the Islamic State (IS). “India is committed to check IS from entering the country,” he went on to add. The minister said in reply to another query that it was “unfortunate” that questions were being raised at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign visits. “The prime minister’s visits have enhanced the country’s prestige in the international fora,” he added.
