Last Updated 25 May 2015, 12:40 IST

Speaking to a packed crowd at Mathura on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said his government had managed to bring down the prices.

He was addressing a public rally on completing one year in the government.

Mathura is  the birth place of Jan Sangh's ideologue Deen Dayal Upadhyay.

This is the first of the 200 public rallies to be organised by BJP  during the week-long celebrations from May 26 to 31.

Highlights of his speech:

We have controlled the rising prices. If you had not voted for this government, inflation would have been out of control.

Middlemen have been eliminated. The days of those who looted the treasury are over. Rajiv Gandhi said only 15 paise of one rupee spent on development reaches the villages. We have ensured that all the 100 paise reaches people.

We need to think, why after 60 years of country's independence, farmers are still distressed.  Farmers' suicide must not be politicised...

When I came to power Rs. 27,000 crores, which had been deducted as PF, was rotting in treasury. Now, there is a unique identity number, so whenever you quit a job, the money gets transferred.

You can now pay one rupee a month and get an insurance of 2 lakh rupees.

We will remove 1,300 outdated laws...

In the last  12 months, foreign investment has risen to 25,000 crores.
