Eshwarappa may become BJP chief

Last Updated 20 January 2010, 19:35 IST

A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting of the core committee of the party held in Bangalore on Wednesday. Sadananda Gowda’s tenure as the state party chief ended in November last year.

BJP sources said the election for the post will be held on January 30 in the presence of party’s national president Nitin Gadkari.

Eshwarappa, it is said, has agreed to give up his ministership to take up the new responsibility. He was state unit president during 1995-97. In view of recent internal squabbles, the party wants to bring a strong leader to head the state unit so that he can call the shots and guide the party and the government.
