Our party will always be in fight mode, says Sisodia

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia justified the “fight mode” tag that the Aam Aadmi Party government had attracted in the past 100 days in power at the public meeting on Monday evening.

In a lighter moment, he joked that his cellphone goes on “fight mode” instead on “flight mode” when he is inside an aircraft.

Addressing the audience, he said the party is not doing Delhiites a favour by presenting the report card at the gathering. “We have come to the owners of Delhi to tell them what are the appointees up to,” said Sisodia attracting a huge applause from the crowd present at Central Park here.

Amidst the ongoing power tussle with the Centre, the minister said it was true that they are on the agitation mode. “But who are we fighting for? We are fighting for our rights and for the rights of the poor.”

Recalling the AAP’s meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi before the swearing-in ceremony, Sisodia said, “We wanted to join hands with Modi to eradicate corruption. We told him it was a historic win for his party at the Centre and ours in Delhi and we could work together for the people.”

He added that the AAP will continue to fight for the right reasons. The minister presented the ongoing work of the government in the last 100 days.

The anti-corruption helpline was a major achievement of the government. The party has also successfully put an end to “raid raj” and “transfer postings”.

“In the past month, at least nine people approached me for the transfer of officials as SDM (sub-divisional magistrate) to Saket and Mehrauli. I was initially surprised. Then I was told one can pocket maximum bribes in these two jurisdictions. I have now posted freshers in these two places. This is how we are putting an end to corruption,” said Sisodia.

He claimed collection in VAT has stepped up from last time’s Rs 2,028 crore to Rs 2,924 crore in the last 55 days. He announced that people across the 70 districts in Delhi will have the option to participate in deciding Delhi’s budget next year. Currently, it is restricted to 11 districts.

Special emphasis will also be given to the education sector with an overhaul in the quality of midday meals and improvement in infrastructure at government schools.
