There's a treat in store

Ranga Shankara, a space for theatre artistes from all over the world, is all set to celebrate 10 years of drama. The venue is also set to host the second edition of ‘Kannada Natakotsava 2015’, a theatre festival that will be on till May 31.

   A stream of Kannada plays will be showcased at the venue, Ranga Shankara. A visual treat, these plays will be in honour of some great personalities of theatre.
Modern Kannada theatre, which can be traced back to 1890, will be seen in a new avatar.

Started in 2014, the curated festival is back for the second season. This acts as a platform for youngsters and aspiring theatre artistes to showcase their works.

Six youngsters have been selected to direct a play of their choice. Ranga Shankara has also helped them with technical and other guidance. On May 27, ‘Kempu Kanagile’, a play directed by Dakshayani Bhat and enacted by ‘Drushya’, will be seen.
Originally written by Rabindranath Tagore and K V Subbanna, it is for a duration of 90 minutes.

 On May 28, ‘Kattale Belaku’, by Vinay Shastry and ‘VASP’, will be showcased. Written by Sriranga, ‘Kattale Belaku’ is about a concrete idea of abstract consequences and their real impact. The play is also for a duration of 90 minutes.
On May 29, Sharat Parvatavani and ‘You and Me Theatre’ will present ‘The Bet’ by Anton Chekov and Sharat Parvatavani. It is for a duration of 75 minutes.

Archana Shyam and ‘Antaranga’ will present ‘Shaapurada Seenigi Sa’, a play by B Suresha. It is for a duration of 90 minutes. The last play of the festival is called ‘Ninneya Naale’, by Avinash and ‘SARC’, on May 31. It is co-written by H S Venkateshamurthy and Avinash, and is for a duration of 90 minutes.

This play discusses the inability of life to quench the mind’s thirst. It is inspired by the character of Draupadi from H S Venkateshamurthy’s ‘Uriya Uyyale’.Entry is for children above the age of eight. The plays will start at 7.30 pm, and at 3.30 pm and 7.30pm on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are priced at Rs 100. One can book them
